We have over 20 years experience dealing with museums and rare works of art. We understand your needs and work hard to meet them and your budget. We appreciate the fact that some projects, such as digitizing a collection, can be too costly for many institutions without the aid of a grant. We know how long and tedious the grant application process can be.
Medium Rare might just have a plan that will fit your needs without the additional funds a grant would supply. To further enhance your limited budget dollars, Medium Rare offers very flexible payment plans which could include no start-up cost or deferred first payment due 90 days after the start of the project. We will digitize your image collection and deliver the digital files in a variety of ways to suit your project. File sizes per image range from just a few kilobytes all the way up to several gigabytes, so the possibilities are endless. We create a fully searchable database, import your images and even enter the data for you. A complete digital solution tailored to your specific needs.
Take a look at some of the services we offer:
- Film Scanning
We use only professional grade scanners. The same Creo scanners that you will find at The National Archives and The Metropolitan Museum of Art can now be found at Medium Rare. The Creo line is the newest addition to our existing scanning equipment. We can now scan film in sizes as small as 8mm all the way up to 11"X14" glass plates. All film is cleaned before each scan with PEC-12, an archival photographic emulsion cleaner, and PEC pads. When wet mounting is used, we use only KAMI scanner mounting fluid. After each scan is completed, we again clean your film with PEC-12 to ensure that your film is as clean or in most cases cleaner than we received it. Please note that glass plate negatives are handled differently. - Flat work
Anything from postage stamps to large charts or drawings, we have a scanning solution just right for your needs. For oversized originals we scan in sections and with the aid of stitching software, combine all the individual scans to form one large ultra high resolution digital image. - Rare Books
We offer many ways to digitize your rare books and manuscripts. All materials are handled with care and every precaution is taken to ensure your rare works are returned to you in the same condition we received them in. Our BetterLight scanning back allows us to digitize a book only opened to a 90 degree angle. This limits the stress on the book's spine while still getting perfect images. - Photographs
We understand your photography collection is important to you. We handle every photograph as if it were one of our own. Our scanners are gentle on your original yet capture all the detail, tones and image quality essential to your project.
Why use a professional service when you can buy a scanner and do it yourself to save money? Read our explanation, it should help clarify the issue.
